Birds on a wire in Burnaby Heights
Lia McMillan is nearing the end of a three-week project painting the newest mural in Burnaby Heights. She says her depiction of colourful birds perched on a telephone wire is inspired by the utility poles and wires along the alley between Gilmore and MacDonald just north of Hastings where she is painting.
“I’m just trying to bring some colour to the alley,” says McMillan of her first mural, which will take her three weeks to complete.
The latest creation is the eighth mural commissioned by the Burnaby Heights Merchants Association for the neighbourhood and is funded by merchants, sponsors and a summer employment grant. The program is designed to reduce the opportunities for grafitti while beautifying the area.
