South Burnaby Neighbourhood House Diamond Ball to be invaded by pirates
Guests at this year’s South Burnaby Neighbourhood House (SBNH) Diamond Ball may want to hang on to their purses and wallets as they’ll be hobnobbing with pirates in their midst.
The seventh annual fundraiser on Feb. 19 at the Firefighters Club Banquet Hall, will feature The Jade Dragon Pirates performing an interactive dinner theatre show in which they’re searching for a black diamond.
Guests will have a chance to win a black diamond of their own. The gem, donated by Trio Diamond & Gold Jewellery, will be locked in a treasure chest and only one of the 100 keys sold at $25 each will open it.
It will be a fun night out, said Antonia Beck, SBNH executive director, that will include a martini “luge,” a silent auction, and a live auction featuring tickets to anywhere Westjet flies. Starting at 10 p.m., local band Rainshadow will perform, so people can dance the rest of the night away.
“The business community has really been stepping up to help us raise money,” Beck said, noting Scotiabank at Mulberry Centre will be matching some of the funds raised.
SBNH hopes to raise $25,000 to support its programs, including its community volunteer program which helps connect people, particularly newcomers, to get them involved in the community.
Its community kitchen program is also in need of money after SBNH lost a grant due to the high demand everywhere for charitable funding, Beck said.
Tickets to the Diamond Ball are $85 each or a table of 10 for $800. The event takes place at the Firefighters Club Banquet Hall, 6515 Bonsor Ave., Burnaby. Cocktails start at 6 p.m. with the dinner at show starting at 7:30 p.m.
