Burnaby's extreme shelter in need of help
The recent spell of warm, dry weather doesn’t diminish that Burnaby’s extreme weather shelter has been open for 23 nights so far in the 2011-12 season. And it hasn’t reduced the continuing need for food, warm blankets, winter coats, gloves, socks boots.
“For people in need of a safe, warm, dry place to sleep. the Burnaby extreme weather shelter provides a welcoming and supportive refuge,” said Wanda Mulholland, the co-chair of the Burnaby Task Force on Homelessness.
The shelter, located at Westminster Bible Chapel, 7540 Sixth St., is open when the weather is too cold, damp or unsafe for people to be outside.
Non food-related donations can be dropped off at the Southeast community policing office behind HighGate shopping centre at 7191 Arcola Way.
Food donations like prepared meals of lasagna, hearty soup, shepherds pie or pasta and tomato sauce are also welcome. Contact Kevan Oxley at 604-515-2728 or kevanoxley@hotmail.com for more information.
