Second St. school hosting open house May 17
Second Street Community School is hosting an open house Thursday, May 17, 3 to 5 p.m. for the public to enjoy its community celebration project.
For the past two months, students at the school at 7502 2nd St. in Burnaby have been creating a series of canvas murals to explore the theme of community celebration.
With the help of Shelley Twist, coordinator of the City of Burnaby's community arts development program, and local artists Anna Talbot and Mona Lochan, more than 350 students, Strongstart families and community members developed the murals. They brainstormed ideas for the final six banners, which will be mounted on a custom built movable frame so they can be featured at community events.
The project was funded by Burnaby city hall, Westminster Savings and ArtStarts.
