EuroFest, the festival that puts Europe at your doorstep, is changing venues from the Scandinavian Centre to Swangard Stadium to accommodate up to 10,000 visitors on May 26.

Those attending the 15th annual Burnaby event can expect to find themselves immersed in European culture from the sounds of yodeling, to the visuals dancers in traditional costumes, to stages filled with European bands and the tastes of ethnic foods from across Europe.

“It’s like visiting Europe without all the bother of jet lag and the high prices,” said EuroFest spokesperson Elke Porter.

New this year at the festival is a tent showcasing photos of Europe as part of an amateur photography contest that will award a total of $1,000 to the top three photos. Entries can be made online at www.eurofestbcsociety.com.

Opening ceremonies will include a flag parade from all participating nations, and tents featuring cultural displays and artifacts.

The event will also include a marketplace with European goods and services.

“It’s a lot of fun for the whole family, everyone will find something to do there,” event organizer Marika Kovalcikova said.

The children’s area will include mini-golf, colouring activities, face painting and two bouncy castles.

After a full day of fun, there will be a dance with a live band from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Tickets are $10 at the door or buy online this year for $8 at www.eurofestbcsociety.com.

Festivities will kick off at 10 a.m. Swangard Stadium is at the corner of Kingsway and Boundary Road.
