Community art project on display at Tommy Douglas library
Reach for the Stars, a community art project produced by people attending the recent Burnaby Homeless Connect event, is currently on display at the Tommy Douglas library branch, 7311 Kingsway.
Burnaby Homeless Connect is a free, one-day annual event hosted by the Burnaby Task Force On Homelessness which connects people living with extreme poverty and homelessness with essential goods and services.
Many of the more than 224 people who received services at the event participated in the Reach for the Stars art project, a quilt completed by the East Burnaby Quilters which "showcases the diversity and need of people living in extreme poverty in Burnaby,” said Wanda Mulholland of the task force.
Anyone wanting to donate to people living in extreme poverty can drop off items at Progressive Housing Society, 7836 6th St., Burnaby, 604-522-9669 ext. 317, or the Southeast Community Policing Office, behind Highgate at 7191 Arcola Way.
Items needed include warm coats, blankets and sleeping bags, feminine hygiene products, men’s underwear, one-zone transit tickets and tuna and crackers lunch-to-go packages.
