ARTS CORNER: Kevin Fox returns to Shadbolt

A popular addition to the Shadbolt Centre’s theatre 2010/11 season has been the creation of many new series like the Independents Theatre Series, the Sole Dance Series or the Lounge Music Series.

These series have enabled theatre-goers to explore their favourite genre a little deeper. Coming to a close for the season is The Lounge Series, showcasing outstanding musical performances in a cabaret setting at the Studio Theatre. The beauty of the Studio Theatre is its intimate black box style, close proximity to the stage and state-of-the-art technology. To cap off The Lounge Series, the Shadbolt Centre is welcoming the return of acclaimed cellist and vocalist Kevin Fox.

With his fusion of classical instrumentation and original, witty, cello-driven folk pop, Kevin returns to the centre with his warm and inviting performance style to showcase the western Canadian premiere of his new CD, Set Right.

One of the Shadbolt Centre’s theatre season subscribers, Linne Redford, attended last year and is attending not one, but both performances this year.

Linne says “it was the most enjoyable concert that I saw all year; a very diversified performer—he takes the audience with him on his musical journey.”

If you have experienced any Canadian music over the past few years, you have more than likely either seen or heard the work of Kevin Fox, as his abilities as an instrumentalist, singer, composer/arranger and performer have provided him with opportunities to work with numerous artists.

Composing arrangements for the likes of Justin Bieber, recording with artists as diverse as Raine Maida and Celine Dion, and touring extensively with musicians like Chantal Kreviazuk, he has somehow found the time to write and record his third album, Set Right—his most focused, cohesive collection of songs to date and one that firmly moves him into the popular genre.

Written and recorded in the deliriously short span of two months, Set Right is the culmination of over 20 years of songwriting and performing professionally on stages and in studios by this revered multi-instrumentalist.

Join us as we transform the Studio Theatre into a cabaret lounge setting to welcome back Kevin as he delights us while he skillfully bows, plucks, taps and loops his signature instrument, working his magic with his own unique musical tapestry.
