The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has charged a suspect in the Sept. 1 homicide of 57-year-old Bayush Hagos in her Metrotown-area home.

Ayelech Zenebe Ejigu, 41, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder. She is currently in custody and is known to police and was recently charged with attempted murder in a separate case, IHIT said.

Hagos worked as a multicultural support worker and was apparently in the process of trying to find shelter for Ejigu. When shelter was not available immediately, Hagos allowed Ejigu to stay at her home temporarily.

Hagos died in her home, in the 4100-block of Maywood Street near Central Park, just before 6:30 a.m. When Burnaby RCMP and ambulance crews arrived, they found one woman dead and the female suspect injured.
