Burnaby's Christine Sinclair has won the Lou Marsh Award as Canada's best athlete in 2012.

Sinclair led the Canadian women''s soccer team to a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London in spectacular fashion, although she will be best remembered for her performance in a 4-3 loss to the United States in the semifinal scoring all three of Canada's goals.

Sinclair scored 23 goals and had six assists for Canada throughout the year which began with her leading the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament in Vancouver in scoring.

The Canadian Soccer Association also plans to present her with a special plaque this week as the team heads into its final camp of the year.

She beat out speedskater Christine Nesbitt, Olympic gold medallist Rosie MacLennan, figure skater Patrick Chan, Giro d'Italia winner Ryder Hesjedal and Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish, a New Westminster native who attended St. Thomas More Collegiate in Burnaby.
