Burnaby man charged with stealing $25K in transit passes
A Burnaby man has been charged in connection with the theft of more than $25,000 worth of transit passes, say Transit Police.
The man was caught after an intensive investigation into seven thefts of monthly fare passes between August and November. The thefts happened at businesses, including large grocery stores, convenience stores and a pharmacy, across the region in Burnaby, New Westminster, Vancouver and Surrey.
The culprit would distract employees then reach over the counter and grab the passes before fleeing from the store.
George Edward McFadyen, 44, of Burnaby has been charged with theft over $5,000. He is well known to police.
McFadyen has been released on condition that he not go to any Safeway, 7-Eleven or Shoppers Drug Mart store and to not possess more than one transit fare pass.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 6 in Vancouver Provincial Court.
