A Surrey man has been arrested after an intense police investigation into an attack on a Burnaby man in 2011, say Burnaby RCMP.

On May 22, 2011, the victim was assaulted outside a restaurant in the 7100-block of Kingsway in Burnaby.

Steven Archibald Mander, 25, of Surrey, was arrested Dec. 13 and has been charged with aggravated assault.

Burnaby RCMP said no further details on the case would be provided as the matter is now before the courts. Investigators have contacted the victim and he "continues to work towards a recovery," they said in a press release.

“Members from the Burnaby Serious Crime Unit worked tirelessly on this investigation," said Supt. Derren Lench, assistant officer in charge of Burnaby detachment, in the release. "For a police officer there is no better outcome than contacting the victim and their family to let them know that the person allegedly responsible has been arrested."
