UPDATE: Help sought in finding missing Burnaby senior
RCMP search crews were out in force Wednesday searching the woods at the base of Burnaby Mountain for clues in the case of a missing senior.
Northeast Burnaby resident Gui Feng Tong, 66, last spoke to her family on Wednesday, Jan. 16. The last known sighting was video surveillance footage of her leaving her apartment building two days later on Jan. 18, said Burnaby RCMP Corp. Dave Reid.
It's possible she may be staying with friends that her family doesn't know.
"In the past she wouldn't necessarily tell her kids where she was going," said Reid. "They would find her staying with a friend. But they've checked with all her friends that they're aware of but they haven't been able to find her."
Tong is described as 5 feet tall, 100 lbs with a slim build. She walks and uses transit, only speaks Mandarin, and has no known medical issues or conditions.
She enjoys picking up bottles and cans but she hasn't been seen at the bottle depot she frequents, Reid said. And she's also known to pick mushrooms, which is why police were searching the forested area near her home off North Road and Chapman Avenue in Coquitlam.
Anyone who knows Tong's whereabouts or has seen her since Jan. 18 is asked to call Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922.
