A man was shot by Vancouver Police this morning, after 10:30 a.m., when officers responded to a 9-1-1 call about a crying child, a yelling man, and bloods on the hallway walls of an apartment building at Kingsway and Joyce in East Van.

The VPD says officers arrived and were confronted by a man with a weapon. Police challenged the man, the VPD says, the officers drew their firearms and shot. The suspect has been taken to hospital.

Officers discovered a dead woman in the apartment suite – in Kingsway's 3300 block – with what appeared to be "multiple injuries".

They also found a young girl who was taken to hospital with injuries, who was five or six years old.

The VPD Homicide Unit is currently investigating.

It is the city's third homicide of 2014, according to the department's press release.
