George Derby cuts hurt veterans
Re: Burnaby Council decries treatment of war veterans (NewsLeader, Nov. 9)
I was moved to tears when I heard what what is happening with our war veterans.
This is cruel and unacceptable. People are more important than the bottom line.
My father was a Second World War vet and thankfully, he was well taken care of by family until the last few weeks of his life, when he went into a hospice.
At a place like Geroge Derby, the long-term staff is like family to residents.
I understand that contracting out is cheaper, but let's not forget, the contractor is in business to make money so who suffers?
The residents, our veterans.
