Clan men lose to Crusaders
The SFU Clan men's basketball team learned a fundamental lesson Saturday in an 84-78 loss to the Northwest Nazarene Crusaders; it takes two halves to win a basketball game.
The Clan stormed back from an early deficit to take a 41-36 lead into the dressing room at half time in Nampa, ID. They kept that momentum going early in the second half, building their advantage to eight on a three-pointer by Connor Lewis.
But then the wheels fell off.
The Crusaders went on a 13-3 run to go up by three with just over 15 minutes left on the clock.
The Clan fought back, reclaiming the advantage with 8:12 remaining when Lewis converted a three point play. Their 64-63 lead lasted all of 11 seconds as the Crusaders went back in front, this time for good.
"We played really well in the first and really, played a good game overall," said SFU assistant coach Chris Cline. "A couple of calls didn't go our way late in the game and we missed some shots late."
Justin Brown led all Clan scorers with 23 points. Lewis had 22, including a perfect five for five from the free throw line.
The loss drops the Clan overall record to 8-15 and 3-12 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
The Clan played Montana State University-Billings on Thursday at the West Gym, and they close out their schedule against Seattle Pacific on Saturday.
