Clan women come up short in Pink Zone

The SFU Clan women's basketball team squandered a 37-point performance by Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe in a 71-67 loss to the Northwest Nazarene Crusaders on Saturday in the West Gym.

Raincock-Ekunwe also pulled down 13 rebounds to extend her Great Northwest Athletic Conference record for double-doubles.

But it was all for nought as the Crusaders hit 50 per cent of their three-pointer attempts to build a 37-30 halftime lead.

The Clan were able to cut the deficit to three early in the second half but Northwest Nazarene built it back up again to eight with just over two minutes left on the clock.

Kristina Collins then connected on back-to-back long bombs to get the Clan to within two, but that was as close as they got.

The loss, in their annual Pink Zone game to raise money for breast cancer research, was just their second setback on home court this season. It drops their record to 15-9 overall, and 9-6 in conference games.

The Clan close out their regular season schedule with a pair of road games at Montana State University-Billings on Thursday and Seattle Pacific University on Saturday.
