Lakers shock Thunder
The Burnaby Lakers pulled off a big upset in defeating the defending Western Lacrosse Association champion Langley Thunder on their home floor Wednesday.
The Lakers downed the Thunder 6-4, and considering the shots-on-goal total, 53-32 in Burnaby's favour, the damage could have been even more.
Dane Stevens scored twice and added an assist for the Lakers with singles going to Scott tinning, Shaun Dhaliwal, Mike Brascia and Matt Quinton.
Former Burnaby Jr. Lakers star Garrett Billings, who grew up in Langley, returned to play for his hometown team for the first time but the National Lacrosse League's second-leading scorer in 2012 with the Toronto Rock picked up just one assist despite taking nine shots.
The Lakers are in Maple Ridge to take on the Burrards on Sunday starting at 6:45 p.m. They play host to the New Westminster Salmonbellies at Bill Copeland Arena next Friday (June 1) with opening faceoff at 7:45 p.m.
