Burnaby's Yan scores for victorious B.C. in midget final
Kaitlyn Yan of Burnaby scored British Columbia's first goal as it won the Canadian midget girls box lacrosse championship by downing Ontario 4-2 the final held in Victoria on Thursday.
Yan was joined on the B.C. team that went undefeated in the tournament by fellow Burnaby residents Amie Morrison, Jolene Robinson and Amber Gilmore.
B.C., with Carley Spagnuolo of Burnaby on the roster, also won the bantam title edging Ontario 4-3.
It was the first time any B.C. team had won a national girls box lacrosse championship.
