SFU Clan run over Cougars
Simon Fraser University Clan quarterback Trey Wheeler was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) player of the week for his stellar performance last Saturday.
The sophomore from Seattle completed 32 of 47 passes for 378 yards and four touchdowns to defeat Azusa Pacific University Cougars (Azusa, Calif.) 68-38 at Terry Fox Field.
The Clan's scoring tied a GNAC record for most points in a conference game as SFU piled up 654 yards in offence. It matched the output of Humboldt State when it clobbered the Clan 66-20 on Nov. 13, 2010.
Running back Bo Palmer had a pretty decent day too. He rushed for 302 yards and scored four touchdowns, including majors on runs of 75 and 67 yards.
The Clan (3-3 overall, 2-3 in GNAC) will travel to Ellensburg, Wash., to take on the Central Washington Wildcats on Saturday.
